Midthunder is a member of Fort Peck's Assiniboine as well as the Sioux Tribe. Her family is of the Navajo Nation of Shiprock in New Mexico. After spending most her childhood in Santa Fe (where she went to the Academy for Technology and the Classics and her mother was employed at a casting facility), she returned to her home. Amber was born in New Mexico and has been identified as Native American from her father's lineage, belongs to the Fort Peck Sioux Tribe. Amber's mother has been adopted. Amber has unknown her mixed family background. Prey features a large number of Native American actors, such as Dakota Beavers (who is Blackfeet and Comanche) as well as Jhane Meiers who has been advising Prey for a number of years. Coco was selected as Sarii due to the American Dingo breed. This breed, also known as a Carolina Dog, is one of the oldest breeds currently in existence.

TJ told Amanda about his love for her but she resisted him since she was with Daniel. In the wake of Amanda's passing, Emily revealed that she was Emily.
